Jovelina Pérola Negra (Jovelina Farias Belfort, born on 21 July 1944, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) was a Brazilian singer, songwriter, and one of the great samba muses, heiress to the style of Clementina de Jesus.
Called the Pérola Negra in honor of her color, had a super strong and popular voice. Jovelina paved the way for a career as dense and intense as her life. She worked as housemaid before becoming successful in the artistic world.
Jovelina was one of the most important person in bringing samba and pagode to the front line of MPB ( Brazilian popular music)
The actress started later, in 1985, when she was 40 years old. In her career, she recorded six albums, like the "Sorriso Aberto" in 1988, "Sangue Bom" in 1991, "Vou da Fé" in 1993, when she was certified platinum.
Samba lady Jovelina Pérola Negra died of a heart attack, aged 54, while sleeping at her house
