Festsaal Kreuzberg - Am Flutgraben 2

Monica Besser, 41, Brazilian-Deutsche singer songwriter, multi instrumentalist, owner of a unique strong voice and a strapping personality, at age 14 was already enchanting the Rio de Janeiro musical scene and, soon after that, touring throughout Brazil. Almost three decades on the road, she took part in countless musical projects and productions with renowned artists, producers and musicians all over the globe.

Her debut album was Monica Besser (2005), produced by Perfeito Fortuna, and its track “Vem Pra Ficar” was heard all over Brazil in the soundtrack of the TV Globo soap opera, “Beleza Pura” (2008), also aired in Portugal, Angola and Mozambique. Other 3 tracks (“Quero ser Feliz, “Só”,and “O Que Tem Feito?”) of her first album played on radios and TV shows in Brazil, including Nelson Motta's famous Sintonia Fina.

Her second official album - Fusion Rocks (2013), also independent and authorial album, recorded over the summer of 2013 in Rio de Janeiro, with a hand-picked dream team of musicians – the album’s production is hers, with the direction of Marcelo Bernardes. Manifold in languages and rhythms, the album comes with a 100% acoustic concept, and is a synthesis of years of research, travel and cultural exchange across Brazil, Europe and Nepal. The album was released in Berlin at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt, HKW Copa da Cultura 2.0, on the Volksbühne Berlin, and on the Museumsuferfest/Frankfurt 2013 (as support band for Lenine and The Martin Fondse Orchestra).

Monica always had parallel bands and collaborations with artists from dance, circus and theater, among others, she authored the musical production of “Veridiana e Eu”, from Companhia do Teatro Intimo, directed by Renato Farias. Composed and performed the score for the short film “Beijos de Sal” by Fellipe Gamarano Barbosa, produced in New York and winner of several awards in Europe, Brazil and USA.
For feature-length film she composed and produced with Felipe Prazeres and Carlos Prazeres the original soundtrack of the film “Um Dia de Ontem” (starring Caco Ciocler), winning the Araucaria Award for best soundtrack at the Paraná Film Festival 2009. The film won other awards, including Best Film at the Beverly Hills Film Festival 2010.

She moved to Europe in 2008, based on Barcelona first, then now living in Berlin since 2010, she opened a whole new universe of studies and partnerships. 2020 completes 10 years of a deep dive into the universe of investigating Art and its role in the world, and she seems to start to bring out a pretty different approach and way of using it. Fusing with indigenous people, as well with all kinds of artists, educators, scientist and activists; she has been dedicated to deep investigating how to bring the natural intelligence of nature into Art. Monica is now returning to the public scenarios after four years in sabbatic studies into what she calls the Syntropic Art. Whatever this is.
